GUWAHATI, Nov 10 - Judges of the Supreme Court of India, including the Chief Justice of India (CJI)-designate Sharad Arvind Bobde, today heaped praise on CJI Ranjan Gogoi appreciating his �sense of justice� and the ability to take everyone together.
Taking part in a function organized to release the Assamese version of Courts of India: Past to Present here this evening, Justice Bobde along with Justice Arun Kumar Mishra, Justice Shripathi Ravindra Bhatt and Justice Hrisikesh Roy hailed CJI Gogoi�s mental strength and determination.
While Justice Mishra said that CJI Gogoi has made a name in history and achieved the impossible, Justice Roy too echoed similar sentiments stating that the son of the soil has made �Mission Impossible� possible.
This comes a day after a five-member constitutional bench of the apex court led by Justice Gogoi pronounced the landmark judgement on Ayodhya land dispute.
Chief Justice of India Gogoi, while releasing the Assamese edition of Courts of India: Past to Present at the function at Pragjyoti ITA Centre, Machkhowa, however, did not make any comment on the landmark judgement.
He said, �I do not want to get into any contentious issue today. This is not the occasion.� In what he termed as his last public function, the CJI, who is retiring on November 17, said that he never liked talking in public.
CJI Gogoi, during his brief speech, spoke highly about another book titled Architecture of Justice which he said chronicles and explains the long and eventful journey of Indian judiciary in an appealing manner. Architecture of Justice was released last year by CJI Gogoi and Justice Bobde together.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion, CJI-designate Bobde said that Courts of India: Past to Present which was published in 2016 in English, could not reach millions of people who are not familiar with the English language and that is why a decision to translate it into vernacular languages was taken by the Supreme Court of India.
The Assamese version of the Courts of India: Past to Present, published by the Supreme Court in 2016 through the Publication Division of the Government of India, has been translated by the Translation wing of the Gauhati High Court.�
The Supreme Court has decided to publish translations of the work in the regional languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and the first translation has been made in the Assamese language.�
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal who was also present on the occasion said the Indian judiciary has not only created a pedigree of legal luminaries but has also earned a unique distinction worldwide due to its superior standards and lofty ideals.
He acknowledged the intellectual wisdom and legal acumen of the judiciary which he said is a guiding force of the country�s democracy.
Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court Justice Ajai Lamba and Chief Justice of various high courts were present on the occasion among others.
