JPC on Citizenship Bill to meet on Oct 23

NEW DELHI, Oct 11 - The Joint Parliamentary Committee on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 is meeting here on October 23 to take evidence from various Central government departments.

JPC chairman Rajendra Agrawal and members will take evidence from representatives of the ministries of Home Affairs, Law and Justice, and External Affairs on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, an official communique said. The JPC had earlier held two sittings with officials of these ministries to discuss further course of action on expediting examination of the Bill and to take evidence.

Dr Satyapal Singh Committee also had on September 21 and October 3, 2016 taken evidence of the nodal ministries like MHA, Research and Analysis (RAW), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Ministry of External Affairs. The committee also heard the views of the chief secretaries of Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Maharashtra.
