Journalist Kamala Saikia remembered

DIBRUGARH, Aug 10 - The media fraternity here have demanded re-opening of the brutal murder case of journalist Kamala Saikia and all other cases in which journalists of Assam have been killed.

In a memorial ceremony organised by Greater Dibrugarh Press Club on the occasion of the death anniversary of Kamala Saikia at the Club here, the speakers regretted that the successive governments in the State had failed to nail the murderers in the last 26 years. The assembly of media persons and leaders of various organisations also proposed re-opening of all cases in which journalists have been murdered. The media fraternity and the organisations demanded that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal must re-open the cases of murder of journalist Kamala Saikia and other journalists through the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

In the memorial ceremony, the attending media persons and leaders of various organisations also paid respect to Kamala Saikia by lighting traditional lamps and placing wreaths.

Speakers at the ceremony included Ikbal Ahmed, journalist and a member of Kamala Saikia Memorial Trust and advisors and office bearers of GDPC � Rajiv Borgohain, Bhusanjyoti Handique, Monjit Borah, Ratul Buragohain and leaders of several other organisations.
