Jorhat youth tests positive for COVID-19

JORHAT, May 18 - A youth of Jorhat district today tested positive for Covid-19 at the JMCH laboratory, thereby taking the total number of positive cases to six in the district.

Among the six persons including today�s detection, four belong to Jorhat district, one youth from Sivasagar district and another one from Mumbai. The person from Mumbai was an ambulance driver who brought a child cancer patient, along with family members, from Mumbai and was allowed to return before the swab test results were out. The driver was, subsequently, traced in Bihar and put under quarantine. They were all routed through the zonal screening centre at Kakodanga set up on the western outskirts of Jorhat to screen returnees from outside the State.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati informed that the test results which came out today was of a asymptomatic youth identified as Sudip Buragohain (20) of Madhavpur, Titabar Civil Sub-Division of the district, who came by road from Chennai and reached here on May 16. She said that the youth who was under quarantine in a hotel here has been shifted to JMCH after results came out.

The Deputy Commissioner also disclosed that swab sample of a youth from Nagaon district sent for test to JMCH came out positive. She stated that swab samples from several other districts in addition to a few adjoining districts were sent to JMCH for tests in recent times.

At present, 46 persons are quarantined in 14 hotels in Jorhat and 308 are under institutional facility at Kaziranga University on the outskirts here.

Since May 6 till today altogether 1120 people who arrived here from outside Assam have been screened at the Zonal Screening Centre of Jorhat, the Deputy Commissioner said.
