Jorhat to host ONGC-AITA meet

JORHAT, Aug 29 - Preparations are on at the Jorhat Tennis Club to conduct the ONGC-AITA Super Series Tennis Championship, a national ranking tournament of the All India Tennis Association for boys and girls in the 16 years age group from September 3 to 7. The qualifying rounds are to be held on September 1 and 2. The events to be held are singles and doubles for both boys and girls.

Udit Gogoi and Kristi Boro, both from Assam are the top seeds in boys and girls singles events. Both, Udit and Kristi represented India in the Asia Oceania Team Championship in the 14 years age group this year. Udit has recently returned from the 6-week European tour under the Junior Development Programme of the International Tennis Federation and also participated in the Road to Wimbledon Tournament that concluded in London last Saturday bringing home the doubles trophy.

The event, sponsored by ONGC, Jorhat and sanctioned by All India Tennis Association will be conducted by Jorhat Tennis Club under the aegis of All Assam Tennis Association.

The top four seeds are: (Boys) 1. Udit Gogoi, 2. Vishesh Jainish Patel (GJ), 3. Hrishikesh Parasar Sangandahali (DL), 4. Abhisekh Mahapatra (OD). (Girls) 1. Kristi Boro, 2. Saniya Manoj Masand (KA), 3. Sweta Samanta (WB), 4. Mekhala Manna (WB).
