Jorhat Municipal Board members take oath

JORHAT, April 4 � A total of 19 newly elected members of the Jorhat Municipal Board (JMB) took the oath of office on Wednesday. Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Solanki Vishal Vasant administered the oath of office at a ceremony here.

The winning candidate of ward No. 1, Aruna Dutta of the BJP has been selected as the chairperson, while Anup Ghosh Dastirdar of ward No. 17 has been named the vice-chairman of the newly constituted body of JMB.

The BJP scored remarkable victory in the civic polls by winning as many as 12 of the 19 seats of ward-commissioners. The Congress won seven.

Besides Aruna Dutta and Anup Ghosh Dastirdar, the other victorious candidates of the BJP, Junu Bora (ward No. 3), Tumpa Mandal (ward No. 4), Ankur Gupta (ward No. 6), Kamala Kundu (ward No. 7), Jayanta Borkakati (ward No. 11), Pratibha Saikia (ward No. 13), Ritamoni Kalita (ward No. 14), Paban Bordoloi (ward No. 15), Abani Saikia (ward No. 16) and Babli Dhar (ward No. 18) also took oath.

The Congress members who also took oath were Arifa Zaman (ward No. 2), Fatema Begum (ward No. 5), Prasanta Bora (ward No. 8), Jitendra Nath Bora (ward No. 9), Jayanta Barua (ward No. 10), Anju Srutikar (ward No. 12) and Rituparna Kharghoria Das (ward No. 19).
