Jorhat girl tests negative for coronavirus

JORHAT, March 22 - Much to the relief of the people of Jorhat and the State, the result of the confirmatory test for COVID-19 of a four-year-old girl of Pulibor here, done at the Regional Medical Research Centre under ICMR at Lahowal in Dibrugarh district, came out to be negative.

The report of the Regional Viral and Diagnostic Laboratory at RMRC-ICMR, Lahowal stated that the nasopharyngeal and throat swabs of the patient received from Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH), were received in good condition at 11:25 pm on Saturday by the laboratory, and the sample tested negative for

COVID-19.

The report came in late last night and the negative result was disclosed by Jorhat deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati this morning.

�This (test report) is a good piece of news,� the deputy commissioner said, adding that it was no reason for complacency.

Korati appealed to the people to cooperate by adhering to various restrictions imposed by the government and also follow related guidelines issued to prevent outbreak of novel coronavirus.

A senior JMCH official stated that the sister and mother of the girl � they arrived here from Bihar on March 19 � were under close observation at the isolation ward of the hospital.

Medics visited the family on March 20 and brought them to JMCH as the girl showed symptoms of COVID-19. After a test for the virus of the girl tested positive on Saturday evening another sample was taken and sent to ICMR laboratory at Lahowal.

Korati late last night said that she had spoken to her counterpart in the Bihar district where the father of the girl was presently staying in order to take measures to keep him (the father) in isolation.

She also said that those people, who came in contact with girl and the family here, were also put under home isolation. � Staff Correspondent
