By Correspondent

JORHAT, March 5 - Enclosing the findings of his on-the-spot investigation into the fire incident in which HSLC answer-scripts were destroyed at Sankardev Seminary High School here, Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Solanki Vishal Vasant sent a report to the higher authorities of the State Education Department today.

Asked whether he got any evidence of negligence on the part of Education Department officials, including the Inspector of Schools and the headmistress of the school concerned, Solanki said that he found security lapse at the site. He added that a report was submitted to the higher authorities of the Education Department to take appropriate action against the officials found negligent towards ensuring the safety of the HSLC answer-scripts.

Neither the headmistress of the school, nor the Inspector of Schools informed the Jorhat SP and the officer in-charge of the local police station to provide security at the evaluation centre where more than 68,000 answer scripts were stored.

A magisterial as well as a CID probe, and investigations by the local police and State Education Department have already begun to identify the alleged miscreants involved in the incident and the actual motive behind the crime.

The DC said that a high-level Education Department officer visited Jorhat today to start a probe. On the exact number of answer-scripts gutted in the fire, Solanki pointed out that only SEBA officials would be able to reveal the figure.

Jorhat SP Amanjeet Kaur said that four complaints have been received from different quarters, including the AJYCP, seeking proper investigation into the incident.
