JORHAT, Sept 7 - Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Roshni A Korati has asked the management of tea gardens in the district to declare the quantum of bonus to be paid to the workers by September 12 and inform the district administration about the same.
The Deputy Commissioner has also directed the tea estates to complete paying of bonus by September 20.
A district administration official stated that the Deputy Commissioner in a meeting chaired by her at her office chamber on Friday, which was attended by tea estate managers, representatives of different tea growers� bodies, ACMS and ACKS, discussed the issue of payment of bonus to the workers.
The official said that Korati directed the garden management to complete the process of declaring bonus by September 12 and payment by September 20 in order to maintain peace and not let any law and order situation emerge in the gardens.
She further asked the garden managements to pay bonus to the workers within 4 pm and not beyond the time fixed by the district administration to prevent any kind of untoward situation.
Jorhat Additional SP (Security) Imdad Ali, who was present at the meeting, stated that the police administration will be keeping a close watch on the gardens and taking all necessary measures to see that the bonus payment process was carried out peacefully, the official said
It may be mentioned here that there are over 85 tea gardens in the district.
