Jorhat Book Fair to have readers� lounge

JORHAT, Sept 5 - An exclusive readers� lounge will be introduced in the 12th Jorhat Book Fair to be held at the Court Field here from December 5 to 16.

The 12-day fair will be organised by the Assam Academic Centre � a Jorhat-based voluntary organisation involved in educational activities � in association with Jorhat district administration and the All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers� Association having Jorhat Deputy Commissioner as the president of the organising committee.

Addressing mediapersons at the Deputy Commissioner�s conference hall here on Saturday, the secretary of the book fair organising committee Romen Gogoi in presence of Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Narayan Konwar, informed that a readers� lounge for students and elderly people has been planned for the benefit of the visitors.

Gogoi said that the readers� lounge will have provision for readers to pick up copies of books of their choice published this year and read them or have a look by sitting in the lounge.

Gogoi said that publishers have agreed to keep new books on display at the proposed readers� lounge to promote their sales by way of providing the visitors to go through books or to read.

Another aim was to promote the habit of reading books by the upcoming generation that seemed to be attracted more towards the digital medium, he said, adding that CCTVs will be installed in the lounge and across the venue to keep a tab on the activities.

The secretary said that publishers from the State and across India are expected to put up stalls in the fair. He said as part of the fair a series of academic and cultural activities along with awareness programmes by reputed companies on job avenues will be organised.

Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Narayan Konwar said that the district administration will provide all the necessary support for success of the fair.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Jayanta Kumar Goswami was also present on the occasion.
