Jogdal murder enters 10th yr today; CBI probe demanded

By Correspondent

JORABAT, Dec 11 - The Dimoria unit of the AASU along with seven other regional organisations today staged a daylong sit-in protest in the Sonapur new market area demanding the State government hand over the 2009 Jogdal murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The murder case will enter the 10th year tomorrow.

Speaking to reporters, AASUs Kamrup Metro unit general secretary Dibyajyoti Medhi said the involvement of a powerful political leader in the matter has delayed the investigation into the incident.

In the massacre that took place on December 12, 2009, six innocent persons Harakanta Doley, his wife Swapna Doley, their three children and his nephew were beheaded.

The case was taken over by the CID, forming a special investigating team, but the people of Dimoria, seeing no real progress in the case, has been demanding a CBI probe for long.

Ratneswar Ronghang, president of the Dimoria unit of the All Assam Tribal Sangha, said. Nine years have gone by but no major development has been seen during this long period to bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.

He said the people of the area believe that the bloodshed was part of a wider conspiracy to set up a five-star hotel in the area with political backing.

AASU and a few other regional organisations that have been raising the demand for a CBI probe into the murder, submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister through the ACP of Sonapur CK Boro, calling for a CBI probe without further delay.
