JALUKBARI, Dec 4 - The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) recently volunteered to organise a job-oriented free training programme for educated unemployed youth of the neighbourhood.
Into the third year, the �Swabalamban� programme this year had female participants, too, registering for training on electrical house wiring, which is usually considered a boys-only domain.
Swabalamban, which started off on November 28 at the Azara campus of the Assam Don Bosco University, is a free training programme for educated unemployed youth in the neighbourhood of the University. It aims at fast skilling youth in a short span of time so that they can begin earning their livelihood.
While giving an overview of the training programme, Prof Manoranjan Kalita, Director of the School of Technology, Assam Don Bosco University, mentioned the importance of self-employment. He also told the trainees as to how eager the ADBU family is to help youth in the neighbouring villages of Azara for the overall development of the area. Pro Vice Chancellor Fr Joseph Nellanatt encouraged the participants to pass on the spirit of willingness to help others.
The six-day free training programme conducted under the supervision of Arun Kr Senapoty along with Pankaj Kr Roy, Sushil Kr Minj and Purabi Deka ended on December 3. It was supported by the faculty, staff and students at all levels of mobilization, training and placement of unemployed youths of the area. Certificates are awarded to the participants in a formal valedictory session.
