JMCH student held

JORHAT, Feb 22 - Jorhat Police on Wednesday night arrested a sixth semester student of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital on charges of forging documents to get admission in the college under SC quota in 2012.

Tuniram Neog, Town Branch Sub-Inspector of Jorhat Police Station, while confirming the arrest of Chinmoy Kakati (23), a resident of Silguri village under Sualkuchi police station in Kamrup district, said Kakati has been arrested under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the IPC in a case registered in the police station last month.

The police official said the case was registered after the Jorhat district unit of the All Assam Scheduled Caste Students� Union lodged an FIR against the student, alleging that he had forged documents to claim seat under SC quota.

Police investigation has found the charges to be true. He will be produced in a local court tomorrow, the official said.
