JORHAT, Aug 31 - Jorhat Municipal Board workers led by Jorhat unit of CITU staged a demonstration in front of Jorhat Deputy Commissioner�s office today in support of their various demands. Holding placards, the protesters shouted slogans seeking regularization of municipal workers and to open provident fund for muster-roll workers � the key demands of the workers.
Stating that they will stage sit-in stir along with their co-workers across the State from September 1 to 3 seeking fulfilment of their demands, the protesters said that though long time back the State Government had decided to regularise the jobs of civic workers, the same was not implemented.
The protesters pointed out that despite the Government�s negligence, the municipal workers were carrying out their duties sincerely like sewage cleaning, garbage cleaning, running water supply schemes etc.
They said that in view of the Covid-19 situation, the services of safai karmcharis (cleaners) was of one of the vital components in the fight against the pandemic, but the people engaged in the sanitation services have remained neglected as always.
