JMB planning terror attacks in India

NEW DELHI/KOLKATA, Nov 10 � The Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), allegedly involved in the Burdwan blast, was planning to carry out terror attacks in India, in addition to the outfit�s plans to trigger explosions in the neighbouring country, reports PTI.

According to the sources who questioned Sajid, alleged to be a mastermind of the October 2 blast, JMB was trying to set up a terror network in West Bengal, particularly in three districts of Murshidabad, Nadia and Malda, and in Assam through armed struggle besides having an �Shariyat� rule in Bangladesh, official sources said.

In the process, the banned terror group was ready to engage in terror acts to achieve their goal, Sajid, a Bangladeshi national and stated to be the chief commander of JMB, is claimed to have confessed before the investigators.

Videos of alleged atrocities on Muslims were recovered from the possession of Sajid and he told the interrogators that such clippings were showed to indoctrinate many youths into JMB�s fold, sources said.

During interrogation, Sajid also spoke about the process of selecting hideouts, procurement and use of IEDs besides identifying, recruiting and indoctrinating youths from various madrassas, they said.

On October 2, the blast took place inside a house at Khagragarh in Burdwan in which suspected terrorist Shakil Ahmed died on the spot while his associate Sovan Mandal died in hospital.

Sajid, who was carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh on his head, was arrested by West Bengal Police on Saturday from the Airport area of North 24-Parganas district.

Immediately after the blast, there people were arrested by police � Razira Biwi, Alina Biwi and Badrul Aalam � while Assam Police arrested 12 others in connection with the case.

Besides Sajid, cash rewards have been announced for other suspects Nasirullah, Kausar, Talha Sheikh and Maulana Yusuf Sheikh, Amjad Ali Sheikh, Habibur Rahman Sheikh, Sahanur Alom, Abdul Kalam, Burhan Sheikh, Rezaul Karim and Zahirul Shaikh.

Meanwhile, in yet another major breakthrough, the NIA today arrested Amjad Sheikh, alleged to be a key member of JMB, in connection with the Burdwan blast case.

Sheikh, alias Kajal, a resident of Birbhum district of West Bengal, is alleged to be the main person who used to procure material meant for making improvised explosive devices, from open market.

NIA said 30-year-old Sheikh was instrumental in procuring chemicals and providing these to other co-conspirators for making improvised explosive devices.
