Jiadhal submerges 49 villages in Dhemaji

DHEMAJI, July 31 � Following incessant rains in Arunachal Pradesh, the surging waters of river Jiadhal have washed away a large portion of the Jiadhal-Kumatia old embankment in Tinigharia yesterday morning which caused flood here.

The floods inundated over 40 villages in Pashim Dhemaji, Samarajan and Dihiri areas under Dhemaji revenue circle in Dhemaji district.

According to official report, the flood waters of the Jiadhal affected 49 villages in the said areas affecting a total of 14,170 people. It has also damaged several hectares of standing crops. The flood scenario in the area have, however seen a little improvement today.

The flood-affected villages includes Kapahtoli, Nepali Khuti, Tengapur, Garubandha Misamari, Kechukhana, Lowmuri, Bothadoi, Goyekhana, Dhobabari, Changmaibari, Bordalapa, Bor Mathaori, Dihiri Chapari, etc.

The Dhemaji district administration today distributed rice, dal and salt among the flood-hit families in the areas.
