GUWAHATI, March 9 - The Nikhil Assam Swarna Silpi Samiti has declared a total bandh of all jewellery shops, factories etc., of the State from tomorrow till 17 in protest against the Central government�s imposition of Central excise of one per cent on manufacture of all jewellery made of gold and silver, studded with precious stones/diamonds etc.
The decision was taken at a meeting, which was attended by members of the Samiti from all the districts.
The Samiti also decided if the excise duty is not rolled back before March 17, then it would go for an indefinite strike.
