JE deaths create panic in Hailakandi

HAILAKANDI, July 16 - Panic grips the people of Hailakandi district following the death of four persons due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE). The Health Department has confirmed the death of four persons in different parts of the district during the last 48 hours. Meanwhile, six other persons have been hospitalized and their conditions are reported to be critical. They have been admitted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Those who died of the dreaded disease include Karan Rout (13 yrs) of Burniebrease, Abdul Khalique Laskar (40) of Nischintapur, Bibha Bhattacharjee (79) of Lala and Sania Nath (4) of Gallacherra.

Some of the hospitalized persons have also been identified. They are � Radheshyam Ravidas, Tinki Khasia and Ratna Begum.

Meanwhile, the Health Department has taken up various initiatives to control the spread of Japanese Encephalitis. Para- medical staff have been sent to the affected places. Fogging by the department is on in both urban and rural areas, informed an official of the Health Department.
