JCTU extends support to tomorrow�s strike

GUWAHATI, April 25 � The Joint Council of Trade Unions, Assam has extended its full support to the nationwide strike on April 27, demanding measures to arrest escalating prices of all essential commodities.

The strike has been called by 13 Left and democratic political parties of the country. A meeting of the JCTU, Assam held on April 23 and participated by representatives of constituent union belonging to insurance, banks, Central and State Government establishments, ASEB defence and other public and private sector undertakings expressed concern over the continuous price rise of all essential commodities, a press release mentioned.

The Bank Employees� Federation (NER) has also extended its whole-hearted support to the strike and called upon its affiliates to extend moral support to the strike, mentioned a statement from the federation.

Punitive action by GU

GUWAHATI, April 25 � As per resolution number R/EC-7/2009/180 adopted by the executive council of Gauhati University on August 31 last year regarding malpractices committed in evaluation of BA, Part-I and Part-II (2+1) examination, 2005 answers scripts by three teachers, the council decided to withdraw all there degrees of Gauhati University pertaining to the latter with immediate effect, a GU release stated.

The teachers under reference are Md Abdul Motalib, Lecturer of Education, Haji Anfor Ali College, Daboka and Md Mussabir Hussain, Lecturer of Education, Ghanakanta Baruah College, Morigaon, besides Tajammal Hussain Choudhury, Lecturer of Pol Science, Ghanakanta Baruah College, Morigaon, respectively.

The release further stated that it was for information of all the universities for taking necessary steps from where they acquired their other degrees.
