IMPHAL, March 15 Demanding inclusion of their five point charter of demands in the government Bill to regulate influx of illegal migrants into Manipur, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has called a 18-hour general strike in the State from Sunday midnight.
JCILPS leaders alleged that the Bill introduced in the State Assembly on March 13 was not in the interest of the indigenous people of the State but to save outsiders.
They demanded withdrawal of the MRVT & MW Bill before discussing the same in the House on March 16 as it has failed to fulfil four out of the five point demands of the committee.
The demands of JCILPS include issuance of pass or permit to migrants, cut-off base year of 1951, ban on land ownership rights to non-indigenous people, strengthening of Labour department for registration and regulation of inter-State migrant labourers, and detection and deportation of illegal migrants.
