Javadekar charges Manipur Govt

By Sobhapati Samom

IMPHAL, Dec 10 - Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javedakar, who is the party in-charge of elections in Manipur, on Saturday charged the Congress Government in Manipur for not resolving the blockade issue in the State.

Speaking to reporters after a brief party meeting at BJP Manipur Pradesh office here, Javedakar said, The Congress Government is fully responsible for this blockade.

Stating that people are suffering because of the blockade, he said the people of the State are angry against the O Ibobi Singh-led Ministry because of its complete failure. Responding to a question, he claimed that the government at the Centre is ready to help (in resolving the problems) but the law and order is a State subject.

Manipur is reeling under artificial scarcity of essential commodities particularly foodgrains and petroleum products with the United Naga Council sponsored indefinite economic blockade on National Highways in the State entering the 40th day on Saturday. The blockade was called in protest against the move to create Sadar Hills and Jiribam into fullfledged districts.

Javedakar is on a two-day visit to Manipur to oversee BJPs preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled to be held early next year.

Claiming that the people of Manipur is ready for a change as the people here are fed up of the corruption in the ruling government, Javedakar said his party is preparing for the polls. After the announcement of the election notification, we will declare the names of the candidates for the polls, he added.

Reacting to another question on the creation of seven new districts in the State, he questioned why the government was sleeping for 15 long years. The Congress leaders in the government here thinks that such gimmicks will win elections, the BJP leader said.
