Janmastami from tomorrow

GUWAHATI, Aug 22 - Hare Krishna Movement, Guwahati (an initiative of devotees of ISKCON Bangalore) and The Akshaya Patra Foundation (Guwahati branch) are going to celebrate Sri Krishna Janmastami with a three-day programme in the Geeta Nagar School field from August 24.

The highlights of the programme will be ceremonial bathing of deities, 108 kalash filled with auspicious river water, swinging the Lord throughout the day, chanting the holy name and creation of 108 steps for pilgrims to do the chanting and offering of more than 108 food items for the pleasure of the Lord. Other attractions will be a food court, showcasing of the traditions and cultures, functions, etc.

According to the organisers, spirituality and culture will be blended in this festival. �We have kept a cultural contest for students (from 1st to 10th standard). Popular artistes of the country and the State will be sharing the stage to showcase the cultural ethos of the north-eastern region in performing arts,� said the organisers.

Artistes who would be taking part in the event include Kailash Talukdar, Hiru Mahanta, Tarali Sarma, Om Chetry, Simanta Shekhar and others.
