Jananeta Bhimbor Deuri remembered at Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, May 20 � The 112th birth anniversary of Jananeta Bhimbor Deuri was celebrated at Bhimbor Deori Bhavan here with a two-day programme on May 16 and 17.

The function was attended by Indibor Deori, an intellectual, Dr Ratneswar Deori, president, Deori Sahitya Sabha, Dr Jwahar Jyoti Kuli, president, Mising Bane Kebang, Durlov Chetia, president, Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha, Robin Saikia Sonowal, executive president, Sonowal Kachari Jatia Parishad, Purnananda Deori, member, Deori Autonomous Council and Dr Biren Borthakur, a retired teacher of Dibrugarh University.

The function was presided over by Dr Kunjalata Deori, president, Dibrugarh Deori Unnayan Samity. The distinguished guests stressed on the relevance of Jananeta Bhimbor Deori in the present social scenario. There was also a proposal for naming the Dibrugarh Airport after his name.

Sahitya Akademi award winner Bipul Deori was felicitated on the occasion jointly by the Dibrugarh Deori Unnayan Samity, Dibrugarh Deori Sahitya Sabha, Dibrugarh Deori Student Union and Mehuwasi Jaksa, a social organisation of women in Dibrugarh with a citation, a sarai, a Deori coat and a Deori gamosa.

The All Assam Jananeta Bhimbor Deori Prize-money Quiz Competition, which was organised on the occasion, was participated by 12 groups from different institutions, and was anchored by Dr Jitu Ranjan Chetia and Binod Bora, both from the Dibrugarh University. The first prize of Rs 20,000 was won by Priyam Jyoti Phukon and Priyanshu Bharadwaj of Dibrugarh University (Department of Physics), while the second prize of Rs 15,000 was bagged by Monalisha Deori and Dev Laxmi Deori of SiB & Jits Institution. Bondita Gogoi and Munindra Nath Hazarika of Salt Brook Academy got the third prize of Rs 10,000, informed Dr Juganta Deori, secretary of the organizing committee.
