By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 13 - Expressing concern over media reports regarding spread of the Islamic State (IS) and other radical terrorist outfits in the State, the Assam State Jamiat Ulama has called upon the people to be on vigil against such elements.

Assam State Jamiat Ulama secretary Maulana Fazlul Karim Kasimi said that the people of Assam have to be vigilant so that such terrorist outfits are not able to create mischief or mayhem in the State or expand their base here.

He said that Jamiat has in recent times taken various steps to raise awareness on the threat from terrorism and mobilize people against such outfits.

Kasimi said that Islam is a religion of peace and violence and terrorism has no place in it and added that Jamiat has always fought to preserve the unity in diversity of the Indian society, consisting of people of different castes, creeds and religions.

The Jamiat leader said that his organisation is committed to take all steps against the menace of terrorism under the present circumstances.

In this regard, the Assam State Jamiat Ulama will hold an anti-terrorism convention in Guwahati where noted intellectuals and nationalist leaders from both Assam and other States will be invited.

The Jamiat has also called upon both Muslims and non-Muslims of Assam to join hands and extend their help in the effort to counter the propaganda of terrorist elements.
