Jahnu roped in for State tourism promotion

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 23 In an initiative aimed at boosting the States fledgling tourism scenario, Assam Tourism has entered into an agreement with internationally-acclaimed filmmaker Jahnu Barua for producing 12 television commercials as part of an advertisement campaign to showcase the States tourism products before a global audience.

The advertisement campaign will be beamed through various national and international channels. The agreement was signed on Wednesday by Barua and Monalisa Goswami, Director, Tourism, Assam.

This is part of our strategy to promote brand Assam, as we feel that the States immense tourism potential has not yet been highlighted in the manner it should be. With a tourism policy now on, the thrust has been on showcasing the best of Assam before a wider audience, Goswami said.

A similar arrangement with Jet Airways is also on the anvil for showcasing brand Assam. We are working on the modalities, and the exercise should be formalized by the next tourist season, she said.

Assam Tourism is working on different guidelines for hotels, resorts, tour operators and tourist transport providers for standardization of service quality. Tourism being all about hospitality, we are training up different stakeholders in the sector especially those having direct dealings with tourists on awareness, motivation and communication. Goswami said.

Regular participation at different international tourist fairs and marts apart, Assam Tourism is increasingly focusing on aggressive promotion through websites, digital hoardings, and in-flight publicity.

Our innovative campaign through in-flight magazines has been receiving tremendous response both inside the country and abroad, Goswami said, adding that the Assam Tourism website had also registered a phenomenal growth in terms of visitors. We are also advertising in Big FM and Red FM through radio jingles, she said.
