ITF junior tourney in city from November 16

GUWAHATI, Nov 11 - Players from USA, Russia, Uzbekistan, Georgia, Taipei besides those from India will converge in Guwahati to participate in the ITF Juniors, the World Ranking Tournament for Boys and Girls in the 18 years age group.

The coveted championship will be organised by the All Assam Tennis Association (AATA) at it�s Chachal complex here from November 16 to 20, informed AATA president Raktim Saikia in a release.

The qualifying rounds are to be held on November 14 and 15. The AATA is all prepared to conduct the 9th edition of this event which is being regularly held every year since 2007.

In singles the main draw will be of 32 players of which 24 get direct entry based on their ranking. Four will get berth from qualifying round and four as wild card. The doubles will have a draw of 16.

The challenge from Assam will come from Parikshit Soman� in the Boys who is likely to be seeded 4th as he will be a Wildcard entrant and from Priyana Kalita in the Girls who is now placed in the 10th position. Besides, many a player from the state will be playing the qualifying rounds to earn a place in the main draw.

The conduct of this event is helping the young boys and girls of this region to get international exposure in their home ground to hone their skills and improve upon their performance in the years to come. The AITA has appointed Saikat Roy of India as the Chief Referee and AATA secretary Ankush Dutta will be the Tournament Director.

(Girls) Pei Hsuan Chen (TPE ), Sabhyat Nihalani, Shivani Manjanna, Aesha Patel (USA), Kaaviya Balasubramanian, Vaidehi Chaudhuri, Anna Solovyeva, Shivani Amineni.
