Itanagar Police bust gang of habitual snatchers, arrest 5

ITANAGAR, Dec 6 - The Itanagar Capital Complex police on Sunday busted a gang of habitual snatchers by arresting five persons involved in cases of robbery and snatching. Police also recovered 16 stolen mobile phones from them.

The arrested accused persons, in their early 20s, were operating in the capital region using two-wheelers without registration number, according to SP of Itanagar Capital Complex Jimmy Chiram.

The arrested accused have been identified as 21-year-old Langda Tanu, Hamam Tachung (20), Margang Tanak (20), Maring Bagjam (23) and Mai Rebi (20).

With the arrest of the five accused, the police claimed to have solved nine different cases, including seven at Naharlagun Police Station and two at Itanagar Police Station, registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

�In the past few weeks many cases of snatching were being reported in various police stations of Capital Complex. The miscreants would snatch/rob mobile phones, wallet/bags, etc., from anyone. In most of the cases, the miscreants used two-wheelers without number plates,� Chiram informed.

The SP said, in view of rising menace of robbery, he formed a team comprising Naharlagun SDPO Rike Kamsi, Naharlagun Police Station OC Inspector Khiksi Yangfo and others. The team made all out effort to trace the miscreants. During the course of investigation, a drive was conducted to regulate the plying of non-registered two-wheelers in the township area.
