ITANAGAR, Oct 4 � The 24-hour capital bandh called by three organisations today evoked mixed response in the twin cities of Itanagar and Naharlagun.
Arunachal Indigenous People�s Union (AIPU), Arunachal Volunteer Youth Federation (AVYF) and Arunachal Youth Association (AYA) called the bandh demanding resignation of Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu for his alleged failure in managing the affairs of the State and corruption in several departments.
Educational institutions, banks, post offices and other Central Government institutions remained closed, while State Government offices functioned as usual.
The market welfare committees of Itanagar and Naharlagun while defying the bandh forced the traders to keep their shops opened.
All commercial and private vehicles remained off the roads while a few State transport buses were seen plying with police escorts.
�We have provided security to prevent any untoward incident during the bandh period,� City SP Chuku Appa said.
A few leaders of the organisations were arrested as a preventive measure yesterday, Appa said. � PTI
