GUWAHATI, May 3 The 1st North East Print Tech-2015, organised by the Printing Technologist Consortium of North East, will be held from May 8 to 10 at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre here.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi will inaugurate the event at 11 am on May 8 and DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh has been invited as the chief guest, said a statement.
This will be the first ever technical session with seminars and exhibition on printing technology. All the printing technologists of the North-east will assemble at the event for a common cause, i.e., for the growth of printing technology in the North-east, it said.
The statement said that as per statistics available, more than 30 per cent of printing jobs are sourced from outside the north-eastern region. Thus, we in the North-east are losing substantial revenue. Needless to say, one of the reasons is the lack of qualified printing technologists and modern printing technology in the region. In view of this, the Consortium is planning to set up an institute of printing technology in Guwahati, said the release.
North East Print Tech-2015 has been recognised and supported by the All India Federation of Master Printers, New Delhi and the Indian Printing, Packaging and Allied Machinery Manufacturers Association, New Delhi.
Printing has a long tradition in the North-east, especially in Assam. Arunodai, a monthly journal in Assamese, was brought out as early as 1846. We are organising the event in keeping with this long tradition of 170 years in the field of printing and with a view to giving it a much-needed boost, the statement said.
During the three-day event, apart from an exhibition of all modern printing machineries that are used in pre-press, press, post-press and allied machineries, various symposia will be held on a number of subjects.
There will be a seminar on prospects of the printing industry in the North-east. A workshop will also be held for skill development of those already involved in the printing and publication industry in order to attune them with the emerging modern printing technology.
A number of printing technocrats and resource persons have been invited for the seminars and workshops, including Dev Nair, president of All India Federation of Master Printers, KS Khurana, president of Indian Printing, Packaging and Allied Machinery Manufacturers Association, Vinay Kumar Singh, CEO of Thomson Digital, New Delhi and Kamal Chopra, renowned printing technologist.
A special programme for working journalists, especially for those who are engaged in page layout making, is also part of the schedule.
