GUWAHATI, April 25 Updating the NRC immediately and taking stern measures against cross border influx, as well as constitutional safeguard to the people of Assam are the need of the hour to save the Assamese society from extinction.

Noted advocate of Gauhati High Court Satyendra Prasad Deka, while delivering the Radhika Mohan Goswami memorial lecture, pointed out that vote bank politics should not be allowed to jeopardize the greater interest of the people of Assam.

The Radhika Mohan Goswami Smriti Raksha Samity and Aalok Prakashan organised the golden jubilee celebration of the Assamese weekly Aalok and a lecture in the memory of the founder editor of the magazine, Radhika Mohan Goswami, here on Saturday.

The issue of foreigners influx and threat to the existence of the Assamese society was identified 30 years back by the learned advocate and founder editor of Aalok, Radhika Mohan Goswami. Through his writings he always tried to generate awareness among people on the issue, said Deka.

Speaking on the topic of Indian Constitution and law in the context of Assam, he also discussed about the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, need of an Upper House in the State Assembly, to give adequate representation to different communities and ethnic groups of the State.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion late Goswamis daughter Rekha Sarma highlighted Radhika Mohan Goswamis contribution towards society. He always fought for the Assamese society, which is a part of the Indian society. In his editorials, he strongly criticized those who tried to drive a wedge among the people of the same country in the name of language, added Sarma.
