GUWAHATI, Sept 14 - The third foundation day of the Sasal Senior Citizens� Association was observed recently at the Association office under the presidentship of Jiban Chandra Sarma.
Rabin Bardoloi, secretary of the Association, explained the purpose of the function and welcomed the guests.
Baneswar Khound, general secretary, Assam Senior Citizens� Association, while inaugurating the function, said that there were at present 270 branches of the Association in 22 districts of Assam. He explained the National Policy for Older Persons and referred to the steps initiated by the Association to realise fully the national policy for the general welfare of the elderly citizens.
Dr Devdas Bharali dwelt at length on the problems of the elderly citizens because of old-age ailments and also their difficulty in adjusting with the changing circumstances.
Chakravartty, in his address, said that 870 million elderly citizens of the world would have to discharge a gigantic task of bringing happiness to their counterparts across the world and wipe out their tears.
He also gave tips to the audience for maintaining physical and mental fitness even at the age of 90 or more.
Fanindranath Dev Choudhury said that a group of elderly citizens of Sasal have selected the area, earmarked by the government for staging dharna, for the purpose of doing meditation in the morning hours, from around 4 am to 7 am.
He added that along with physical exercise, the elderly should simultaneously devote attention to mental well-being and there should be constant effort to subdue destructive emotions and channelise constructive emotions.
