Issues affecting grade-III power workers

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 4 - The Assam State Electricity Supply Mazdoor Union organised a special convention on Sunday focusing on the promotion and other pending issues of more than 700 grade-III employees of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

In the convention, speakers rued about the lack a proper provision ensuring the promotion of the BC-MR employees of the APDCL. The convention was held at the ASEB Pensioners Association Bhawan, Six-mile.

The post of BC-MR had been created following reforms in the ASEB, by merging different grade-III posts like bill clerk, meter reader, cashier, etc.

The Union members alleged that though highly educated youths were employed on the BC-MR posts, who have been efficiently doing their duties that include meter reading, bills preparation, revenue collection, among others, the APDCL has no transparent criteria with regard to granting promotions under such posts.

During the convention, which was presided over by the Unions State president Pitambar Talukdar, electricity workers from Guwahati, Kamrup, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Nagaon, Morigaon, among others, took part.

The convention demanded of the APDCL authorities to fix three years service as the minimum criteria for promotion and make provisions for judicious granting of promotions based on additional educational qualifications of the BC-MR employees.
