ISKCON prepares for Janmashtami festival

DIBRUGARH, Aug 20 - The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is celebrating its golden jubilee this year across the globe in all its temples and centres. The ISKON centre here is also organising Janmashtami festival on August 25.

Parallel to the festival, keeping the Vedic ethos and awareness of children in perspective, cultural contest will be organised in the temple premises on Sunday. The Vedic Art contest will commence at around 9 am and Bhagvat Gita Sloka recitation contest will be held at around 3 pm, both for children of Class I to VIII, a release stated.

On August 22, a parade will be taken out all over the town to portray the historic journey embarked upon by A C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder acharya of ISKON.

Janmastami celebration on August 25 will start with Darshan Arati at around 8 am. Later, at around 7.30 pm, the �Abhishek� of Radha Madhav will commence followed by the sweet sounding transcendental kirtan.

There will also be a lecture on the pastimes of Krishna for an hour starting at around 11 pm. The Maha Arati will be performed at around 12 pm and will be concluded by Anukalpa Prasadam. Next day, the appearance day of Srila Prabhupada, founder acharya of ISKON and Nandotsav will be celebrated, the release stated.
