Haflong, Feb 19: The N C Hills Indigenous Students Forum (NCHISF) has threatened to go on an indefinite road blockade from 1st March if National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) does not start the maintenance work of the Jatinga-Harangajao road within 28th February, informed NCHISF President David Keivom on Thursday.

Keivom said that the ISF Harangajao branch organized a joint meeting at Rekho near Harangajao to discuss regarding NH 54E Jatinga-Harangajao road maintenance work & compensation.

The meeting was attended by Gaon Buras, student leaders and village representatives of Harangajao areas. The Ministry of Highways had sanctioned an amount of Rs 54 crores for the maintenance of Jatinga to Harangajao road but unfortunately only Jatinga to Miyungkro portion maintenance work was carried out.

As the monsoon season is nearing and if the maintenance work of the most critical portion of Miyungkro to Harangajao stretch which is a sinking area is not started immediately then the people will continue to face same hardships like earlier. This has led to a decision to go ahead with a road blockade agitation if the NHAI authority fails to start the maintenance work from Miyungkro to Harangajao before the onslaught of monsoon.
