ISBT foundation stone

TEZPUR, March 4 - In the meantime, Minister for Transport, Industries and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary laid the foundation stone of an Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) here on Saturday.

The ISBT, to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 28.6 crore covering an area of 15 bighas, will have modern facilities, besides a commercial block. The proposed market complex within the ISBT will consist of 68 small rooms and two multiplexes along with restaurants, etc. The ISBT will accommodate around 50 buses.

In his speech, Patowary said the project is a part of the State Government�s commitment to improve the public transport network in the State and provide efficient services to the travelling public. The project was announced by the Finance Minister in his Budget speech this year, and after observing the necessary official formalities, the foundation stone was laid and work on the project will start very soon, the Minister informed.

Local MLA Brindaban Goswami too had been demanding an ISBT since the past several years.

Patowary said the Government has taken a slew of initiatives to improve connectivity by way of upgrading railway lines and waterways.

�As we need proper infrastructure in order to woo investors, hence we are doing accordingly,� he said.

To substantiate his claim, the Industry Minister informed that people of the State have witnessed a sea change during the BJP regime within a very short period of time.

Minister for Labour and Employment Pallab Lochan Das in his speech said the State Government has been striving to improve connectivity to even the remotest areas. The Government has been continuously trying to extend welfare benefits to all sections of the people.

The Chairman of Assam State Transport Corporation Ashok Bhattarai said the proposed market complex within the ISBT, which will consist of individual shops, is likely to help the young entrepreneurs to a large extent.

Among others, Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar, MLA of Tezpur, Brindaban Goswami, Chairperson of Assam State Textbook Production and Publication Corporation Ltd Rajen Borthakur, Vice Chairperson of ASTC Haricharan Boro, vice-chairperson of AMTRON Ritubaran Sarma, MD of ASTC Anand Prakash Tiwari, Chairperson of Sonitpur Zila Parishad Dolly Surin and Chairperson of Tezpur Municipal Board Puspa Deka were present at the meeting.
