Iron tablets meant for girls offered to boys!

BISWANATH CHARIALI, May 26 � The iron and folic acid tablets meant for girls of 13-plus age group were offered to 11 boy students at Howajan Higher Secondary School under Gohpur sub-division on May 23. This has come to light of late. All the students belong to class eight of the school, among them, four students fell sick after consuming the tablets and they took treatment at Gohpur FRU hospital. One Chinmay Baruah among them is still undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Significantly, a section of students studying at different schools to entire Gohpur has refused to take midday meal after the incident as they have been reportedly forbidden by their guardians not to take even water at school. Meanwhile, the teaching community has condemned the alleged aattacks by some agitated people upon the headmasters of Kanaklata Girls� High School, Barangabari, Khitish Kafle and Dilapakhara High School, Lokendra Sharma and urged the administration to ensure their safety.

The local units of AASU staged protest rallies at Gohpur, Kalabari, Ghahigaon on Friday and submitted memorandums to the SDO(C), Gohpur. Several organisations including AJYCP, AATSA etc have condemned the incident of tablet consumption and demanded high level enquiry. On the other hand the SDO(C), Biswanath, Abhijit Baruah has given an order to stop the distribution of iron and folic acid talbets in the Biswanath sub-division which was due next Wednesday.
