By Correspondent

DOOMDOOMA, July 20 - Even after 55 days, Oil India Limited has failed to kill the fire and cap the blowout well in Baghjan Oilfield in Tinsukia district though the efforts for it has been going on in full swing for the past couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, the intensity of the tremor that started in the aftermath of Baghjan Gas Well inferno on June 9 has been increased since last week and began to engulf more and more areas of Doomdooma circle. People felt strong tremors like earthquake which triggered panic among them.

People of greater Kordoiguri area today registered their protest against OIL as they have been passing sleepless nights due to continuous tremor and loud noise of the blowing out of gas from the well. The irate public blocked the Tipuk-Kordoiguri-Baghjan road at Gotong Tiniali. This road has now become the only link to the blowout site after a bridge near Rupai Tea Estate of Doomdooma-Baghjan PWD road collapsed due to heavy rain a few weeks back. As heavy vehicles have continuously been plying through this Tipuk- Kordoiguri-Baghjan road, the condition of the road has become dilapidated at many places. The protesters demanded immediate repair of the road.

Moreover, they are of the opinion that the continuous tremors have resulted heavy erosion of Dangari river posing a threat to the Kordoiguri area. They also alleged that the continuous tremors and loud noise have caused health hazards to the people especially to the aged persons and pregnant women.

Later, the protesters handed over a memorandum to an OIL representative who came to the protest site demanding the OIL authority to kill the fire and cap the well immediately, repair the Tipuk-Kordoiguri-Baghjan road , to give adequate compensation to the affected people of Baghjan disaster, to set up a medical camp at Kordoiguri area for the treatment of the aged persons and pregnant women who have been suffering due to the tremor and loud noise etc.
