TEZPUR, Nov 23 - Sensation prevails in greater Bihaguri area following the killing of a farmer at Arimora Chapori area on the bank of the river Brahmaputra last night by a wild elephant. It needs mention here that one Bhuban Bania (65) of Bihaguri-Sagolichuk area was killed by a wild elephant last night. Soon after the news of death of the farmer spread in the area, irate people came out on the NH-15 to register their protest against the Forest departments failure to deal with the perennial man-elephant conflict.

It is to be mentioned here again that in the last few days, a herd of wild elephants coming out from the Nameri National Park and Sonai Rupai area searching for fodder has been creating havoc in the Bihaguri area, damaging a large area of crops. The people however alleged that it has been happening only because of the Forest Departments alleged failure to deal with the issue. If the department concerned fails to check the issue in the days to come, people will be forced to start a vigorous movement.
