IMPHAL, Nov 27 - Union Textiles Minister Smriti Zubin Irani today inaugurated the Rs 18 crore Apparel and Garment Making Centre at Lamboikhongnangkhong industrial site near here.

The inaugural function was attended by Lok Sabha MP Dr Th Meinya Singh, Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Principal Secretary for Commerce and Industries L Lakher attended the function.

The Centre consists of one skilling block and two commercial blocks with around 300 machines. The Union Minister informed that the MUDRA scheme has been launched for direct connectivity of the weavers so that they can be easily identified for International Exhibitions.

The Central Government has sanctioned Rs 200 crore for the promotion of textiles in the State, she added. Irani also distributed �Pehchan� Identity Cards to some artisans of the State during the function.

Irani said that the scheme for identifying weavers was launched on October 7, 2014 and more than 2,000 weavers have been identified and issued identity cards. The State awardee will be given Rs 30,000 per month to train weavers. Twelve clusters from three districts were also selected for the design workshop and training.
