AGARTALA, Sept 20 - Tripura BJP vice president and MLA Rampada Jamatia reportedly had to beat a hasty retreat after a group of unruly IPFT workers barged into a meeting at a community hall in Ganganagar of Dhalai district this afternoon.
Police personnel posted on security duty, who were led by a sub-inspector, allegedly remained mute spectators during the sudden disruption of the meeting. Jamatia was forced to leave the meeting hall. He later filed an FIR at the Gandacherra Police Station.
The State BJP vice president said that he had been stationed at Gandacherra since Thursday in connection with a party programme and on Friday, he reached the government community hall at Ganganagar to address a meeting on the Ayushman Bharat health scheme and the Ayushman Tripura scheme modelled on it.
After he began his speech, a large group of IPFT workers stormed the hall, chased the audience away and tried to assault Jamatia. The MLA alleged that he could have been killed in the attack. What happened today is not only shameful but also uncivilised. I could have been killed, but the police personnel did nothing to drive away the unruly IPFT elements and save me, he maintained.
Jamatia, who is an influential tribal leader, regretted that though he made repeated calls to the Chief Minister, there was no response.
