IPFT to organise rally on Twipraland Diwas

By Correspondent

AGARTALA, Aug 21 - With the Assembly elections in mind, the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) has decided to organise a rally at Khumulwng in West Tripura district on August 23.

The rally, which would be joined by indigenous people, will be held to mark the tenth Twipraland Diwas. Manish Tamang, the convenor of National Federation of New States, Raja Bundela, another leader of the organisation and secretary of All Bodo Students Union Promod Boro have been invited to the programme but are yet to confirm their participation, said IPFT president NC Debbarma.

The decision to change the venue from Agartala to Khumulwng was made in a meeting of partys executive committee held on August 14, he said.

We wanted to organise the programme in the capital itself, but DGP AK Sukla did not give permission citing security reason, he said at a press conference at Agartala Press Club here on Monday.

He said there was unrest in the capital centering IPFTs rally for Tipraland demand on August 23, 2016 leaving several people injured. The government had ordered a Magistrate level inquiry into the incident and the DM had submitted its report on January 12, this year. Unfortunately, the report was not made public yet, he said.

The IPFT leader continued, It would have been better if the report was made public but it has not happened yet. The people of the State are still in dark regarding who were responsible for the unrest on the fateful day of August 23, 2016.

On being asked about the outcome of the 11-day blockade of National Highway and railway at Barmuras Khamthingbari area, the veteran tribal leader said Governor Tathagata Roy had taken up the issue with the Centre. Lets see what happens to our Twipraland demand, he said.
