IPFT to field candidates for both LS seats

By CORRESPONDENT

AGARTALA, March 7 - At a time when tribal parties are coming together to protect the rights of the indigenous people under the Tripura United Indigenous Peoples Council (TUIPC), the IPFT has announced that it would field candidates for both the Lok Sabha seats.

Informing the partys decision on the Lok Sabha election, IPFT vice president Ananta Debbarma on Wednesday said the partys core committee would meet soon to take the final call on the issue.

Debbarmas statement assumes significant as the IPFT is a partner of BJP-led coalition Government in the State. The BJP has already made it clear that it would contest both the Lok Sabha seats. However, IPFT supremo NC Debbarma and his trusted man, Mever Kumar Jamatia, are still tight-lipped.

Reports indicate that the rift among IPFT leaders has been widening with a section of leaders accusing NC Debbarma and Mever Kumar Jamatia of betraying the people on the Tipraland demand. Now, it remains to be seen how things unfold in the days to come.
