Int�l Tea Day celebrated at Dikom TE in unique manner

DIBRUGARH, May 21 - The tea industry marked its first International Tea Day today as an effort towards expanding demand of tea and its health benefit properties. It is also to raise awareness of the long history of tea and to appreciate the working force of this industry.

Tea, which has survived through World Wars, famines, plagues and seen the world change from analogue to digital, has so many stories to share.

Dikom tea estate, located some 18 kms from here, celebrated its tea day by honouring the souls, who have engraved the deep roots of Dikom tea estate centuries ago by lighting candles and thanking each and everyone.

The estate on this auspicious day inaugurated its Information Centre and also launched its e-learning portal in YouTube. This information centre will be used by teachers to make online class videos which will be uploaded in the e-portal.

Inaugurating the Information Centre, Nabin Keot, Vice President, ACMS Central Committee said, �I am happy to be present on this auspicious occasion for the noble initiative taken by the garden which is one of its kind in the industry.�

Samar Jyoti Chaliha, Superintending Manager said that the e-portal would help the students to easily search their respective e-classes course in a single platform by saving their time. �At any time the children can access these videos making learning better for the weaker students. We have started this initiative so that our students will not remain behind in their studies in this pandemic situation,� said Chaliha.

It needs to be mentioned here that at Dikom, the senior college going students are also taking classes for the junior students during the period of lockdown by maintaining all guidelines that has been advised by the district administration. To pay their gratitude to each and everyone who are in the frontline working day and night to save humanity from this dreaded COVID-19, the student sang the famous song Hum Honge Kamyab Ek Din with a belief that their hard work will bring smile back on our faces one day.

Later the tea estate management went house-to-house to felicitate a few elderly ex-employees of the garden in recognition of their hard work in the past in whose pillars the present day Dikom Tea Estate stands.
