SHILLONG, May 22 � The International Day for Biological Diversity was celebrated in Meghalaya today with the theme: Biodiversity for Sustainable Environment.
The celebration at U Soso Tham Auditorium was organised by Meghalaya Diversity Board and Department of Forests and Environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Meghalaya Forest and Environment Minister Prestone Tynsong appealed to the students to take up initiatives and play an active role in conservation of environment. He also released a book, �Wild Orchids of Meghalaya: A Pictorial Guide.�
The Day is celebrated to create awareness among the students and the public on the importance of conserving biodiversity.
