GUWAHATI, June 21 - The State Government has decided to observe the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26, stated an official press release here today.

In this connection, all Deputy Commissioners, Sub-divisional Officers (Civil), Commissioners of divisions of the State have been requested to observe the day to raise public awareness about the menace of drugs and spread awareness among the public against the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The day will be observed by organising awareness programmes in schools and colleges, anti-drug marches, runs or rallies, public meetings in areas and among target groups vulnerable to drug abuse and HIV (streetchildren, jail inmates, truck drivers, slums, etc.) and through exhibitions on drug abuse in different towns, the press release added.
