GUWAHATI, Aug 4 - Teok-based Assam Premi Yuva Chatra Samaj, Axom has filed an intervention petition before the Supreme Court of India in the case (No 562/12) related to the base year for detection and deportation of the foreign nationals illegally staying in Assam filed by the Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha.
The Samaj said in a statement here today that the base year for the other states for the purpose of detection and deportation of the foreign nationals is 1951. But in the case of Assam, the base year is 1971. This is nothing but discrimination against Assam, it said.
The Samaj has also been demanding holding of three separate hearings by the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 for upper Assam, central Assam and lower Assam.
