Guwahati, March 9: As the Russian forces continue to barrage Ukraine, heart-wrenching stories have surfaced from the war-ravaged country.
On Tuesday, Ukrainian authorities have said that a six-year-old girl had died alone in the ruins of her home after it was bombarded by the Russian forces which also killed her mother.
As per reports, the incident took place in the southeastern city of Mariupol which has been bombarded by the Russian forces over the past few weeks.
Following the heavy shelling water, electricity, heating or mobile connection was cut off and had also hindered the evacuation and humanitarian deliveries in the port city.
Mayor Vadym Boichenko sharing only the girl's first name- Tanya, in an online post said "We cannot say how long our little, strong Mariupol citizen has been fighting for her life. We cannot imagine how much suffering an innocent child had to endure."
"In the last minutes of her life, she was alone, exhausted, frightened, terribly thirsty. This is just one of many stories from Mariupol, which has been in the blockade for eight days."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky while criticising Russia said that it was unacceptable that a child could die in such a way in the 21st century.
According to reports, the UN human rights office had recorded at least 406 civilians killed in Ukraine since Russia invaded on Feb 24, but it said the real figure was likely to be much higher.
