JORHAT, March 12 - A two-day international literary meet will be organised here on March 16-17 by Sahitya Sanskriti Manch, Assam, a newly-formed literary and cultural organization.
Disclosing about the event here, the president of the Manch Ananta Kumar Sarmah, a retired CSIR-NEIST scientist and a children�s litterateur, said that the organization was formed with many like-minded people involved in literary and cultural activities so as to promote literary and cultural heritage of the State.
Sarmah said that the organization will be an open forum to discuss and debate on ideas in an accommodative manner and reach out to people who want to contribute to promote amity and brotherhood by way of building bridges among different communities through cultural and literary exchanges.
He said that organizing the literary meet by having people from the literary field across the north-eastern region and various parts of the country and also abroad was an attempt to have an exchange of thoughts and ideas and carry forward the initiative of the platform.
Sarmah said that writers, poets and critics from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and from States like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, besides the North East will be participating.
He said that discussions on various facets of literary topics, multilingual poets� meets, interactive sessions, cultural presentation of several tribes and groups and visit to villages to showcase lifestyles and other cultural traditions of the indigenous communities are part of the programme.
From Sri Lanka, SA Udayshankar, Dr Budhen from Mauritius, Shanta Ramdhani and Rajeswar Nepali from Nepal are likely to participate.
Secretary of the manch, Uttam Kumar Hazarika said that the inaugural programme will be held at the auditorium of the Jorhat Science Centre and Planetarium while former Professor of University of Burdwan, Dilip Kumar Baruah, who is a well-known critic, poet and a writer, is scheduled to inaugurate the meet.
The programme on the second day will be held at different venues on the outskirts here which includes the famous Dhekiakhowa Bornaamghar.
Poets� meet, interactive session, cultural shows and exchange of opinions and release of a souvenir are on the second day�s itinerary, the secretary said.
