International Film Fest begins in Imphal

IMPHAL, Jan 11 � Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat today inaugurated a five day international film festival �Re-Play International Film Kumhei� here today.

The festival is sponsored by Manipur Film Development Corporation, in association with Huntre, a non-profit organisation engaged in International Manipuri projects.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor said such festivals provide an opportunity to our film aficionados to witness good films produced in different parts of the globe and they can keep abreast of the international trends.

He also expressed happiness over the proposed workshops � one on documenting dance with Yoshiko Chuma whose School of Hard Knocks is based in New York City and another on screenplay with Alexandra Viets from Washington D C.

The Governor and other dignitaries later watched Indonesian film maker Andibachtiar Yusuf�s Romio Juliet based on Shakespeare�s classic.

The festival this time is a digital festival of non-fiction films that takes a best-of-fest approach to bring you selections from distinguished international film festivals besides featuring more than 20 documentary films also focuses on Indonesia, with selections from Film Festival Dokumenter in Yogjakarta in Java, Haobam Ronel, Festival Manager told The Assam Tribune today.

The last day will see the screening of noted film maker Aribam Syam Sharma�s �Sangai:The dancing deer of Manipur�, along with Yoshiko Chuma�s performance with a tribute to noted writer late Maharaj Kumari Binodini.
