GUWAHATI, June 13 As part of its efforts to popularize and promote yoga, the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports is observing the first International Day of Yoga under the theme Yoga for Harmony and Peace in five different places across India, including Guwahati, on June 21.

A preparatory meeting of the organising committee formed for the purpose was held at IIBM, Khanapara, Guwahati on Wednesday to discuss the strategy for proper implementation and organisation of the programme, a press release stated.

The programme will be held at the Veterinary field, Khanapara, from 7 am on June 21, which will be followed by a youth convention. The organisers are expecting a turnaround of around 10,000 people in the event, which will be attended by Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State (Ind) for Youth Affairs and Sports, besides other dignitaries.

Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition which embodies the unity of mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfilment, and harmony between man and nature, and a holistic approach to physical and mental health and wellbeing.
